Welcome to the Single Fathers Network – Your Blueprint for Single Fatherhood! Established in 2022, we are a non-profit organization committed to being the ultimate resource hub for single fathers.

Driven by the experiences of fellow single fathers, our founders identified a crucial need for a comprehensive platform to guide men through the intricacies of single parenthood. Recognizing the abundance of resources available for single mothers, we were determined to bridge the gap and create a dedicated space for single fathers.

Our mission is clear: to provide a thriving community of support, invaluable resources, and vital information tailored to single fathers. Through a spectrum of services, including dynamic online support groups, insightful articles, and engaging blog posts, as well as interactive in-person events and workshops, we equip single fathers with the tools they need to thrive.

Single Father Households

In 2022, there were around 7.13 million families with a male parent and no spouse present in the United States.

Imbalanced Custody

Mothers are more likely to receive primary residential custody than fathers. Estimates suggest that mothers receive primary custody 68-88% of the time, fathers receive primary custody 8-14%, and equal residential custody is awarded in only 2-6% of the cases.

Title IV-D Failure

Approximately 85% of custodial parents are mothers, a statistic that Thorne attributes not solely to gender bias but also to a federal money bias under Title IV-D of the Social Security Act.

Marital Status

In terms of marital status, 41.1% of single fathers have never been married, 37.8% are divorced, 16.8% are separated, and 4.3% are widowed.

Employment

Employment statistics show that 74.3% of single fathers are employed full-time, 16.5% part-time, and 9.2% are unemployed. However, 13.8% of single-father households live below the poverty level.

Child Support

Comparing child support agreements, we can observe that the share of custodial fathers (38.4%) who did not receive any child support payments was greater than that of custodial mothers (28.7%)

Mental Health

Paternal perinatal depression (PPND) is a condition that can affect new fathers, but it receives significantly less public attention compared to postpartum depression in new mothers. Prevalence rates of up to 25% have been documented in first-time fathers
