As a single father, I’ve often found myself facing double standards and biases that favor single mothers over single fathers. It’s a frustrating and demoralizing experience, and one that I know is shared by many other single fathers out there.

One of the most common double standards that single fathers face is the assumption that we are less capable of caring for our children than single mothers. This bias is often rooted in outdated gender roles that view mothers as the primary caregivers and fathers as secondary or tertiary caregivers.

This double standard can manifest in a variety of ways. For example, when a single mother is praised for being a “super mom” for juggling the responsibilities of parenting and a career, a single father is often expected to just “step up” and do the same without any recognition or praise.

Another double standard that single fathers often face is the assumption that we are somehow “less involved” in our children’s lives than single mothers. This bias is often based on the stereotype that fathers are less nurturing and less emotionally invested in their children than mothers.

This double standard can make it difficult for single fathers to get the support and recognition that we deserve as primary caregivers. It can also lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness, as we may feel like we don’t have the same level of support and understanding from society as single mothers do.

It’s time for society to recognize and acknowledge the important role that single fathers play in our children’s lives. We deserve the same level of respect, support, and recognition as single mothers. It’s time to shatter the double standards and biases that favor single mothers over single fathers, and to create a more equal and supportive society for all single parents.
